Hey team,

Recently we started working with a new client on YouTube and his very first long form video has hit 33,755 views in less than 3 weeks, without spending a dollar on ads…

Here's a few things that worked:

1. Taking a popular format, and adapting it to Duncan's niche.

Ive seen countless football channels create content explaining each of the teams in the premier league, championship, etc which have all performed very well.

So we figured bringing this to New Zealand's rugby scene would go down well, and so far it has.

2. Focusing on topical content.

Naturally, you might think of creating this video around the biggest teams in NZ, the super rugby franchises, but instead we picked the NPC championship, because the seasons only just begun so its top of mind for viewers.

Picking topical content ideas always has, and always will be a cheat code to increasing your numbers on YouTube.

3. A big focus on title and thumbnail.

Beyond a good video idea, your title and thumbnail are the next thing you need to get right, if no one clicks on your video, it doesn't matter how good the content is, it'll go nowhere.

Creating a title/thumbnail that fits the brand, whilst enticing people to click, is the key to more views.

4. A good video, delivering on the promises you made in the title/thumbnail.

No amount of tricks or hacks will save a video thats boring and fails to live up to the promise you made to the viewers. Duncan presenting the video with enthusiasm, delivering a lot of insights whilst also keeping it concise, and then being supported with an edit that adds to it, keeps people watching.

For any rugby fans out there looking for a new channel to watch, you can take a look at the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDt3Z15K1-M&t=6s

Hope this helps,
Josh
